Some of the changes making an impact
on your health care today:

We’re giving you greater access to health care professionals. Highlights include:

  • Over 53,000 people were assigned to a family care team. There are 13 active family care teams in the province and more to come.
  • 100+ more physicians recruited and started since April 2023.
  • 500+ more nurses hired since April 2023.
  • Increasing the scope of practice for our health care professionals, so they can do more.

We’re reducing your wait time for surgeries. Highlights include:

  • Launched travel teams and mobile care, increasing access for patients by bringing the doctors and specialists directly to them.
  • Reducing backlogs through innovation, like same-day joint replacement.
  • Increasing the number of cardiac surgeries
  • Increasing access to stroke care.

We’re committed to building a healthier population and province by addressing poverty reduction, keeping seniors at home, improving nutrition, and giving better access to childcare. Highlights of our actions include:

  • Added 1000+ new early learning childcare spaces in 2023. 
  • Introducing a comprehensive Seniors Well Being Plan. This includes the Seniors Care Benefit, an increase to the home repairs and modification grant allocation for Seniors, a caregiver benefit, the Labrador Coastal Benefit for Seniors, and easier access and navigation of the plan.
  • Increased NL Child Benefit by 300%.

We’re ensuring we keep our healthcare professionals and welcoming new ones. Highlights include:

  • Retaining our own healthcare professionals by introducing childcare centers specifically for them, strengthening mental health supports, and lightening the load by recruiting new professionals through a “Best in Canada” incentive package. 
  • Increasing the number of seats for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in the Faculty of Medicine by ten. 
  • Doubling the seat capacity for nurse practitioners and increasing seats for nurses.
  • Modernizing infrastructure.

We’re giving you more access and more control over your health. Highlights include:

  • Investing over $600 million in a new health information system that will transform digital health for both patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Investing over $10 million a year to ensure everyone in the province has access to virtual care.
  • Investing over $5 million to create a digital front door that will allow patients access their own records, book appointments, and navigate the healthcare system — right at your fingertips.
